“Finance isn’t reporting — it’s decision-making.”

Growth Finance, a CFO-outsourcing specialist group, hosted an expert conversation with Bom Lee — the CPA and CEO behind the AI finance-automation solution Numen (formerly Finex) — for an in-depth discussion on FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis), an essential discipline for startups.

The conversation covered ▲what FP&A is and the role it plays ▲why startups must build an FP&A capability ▲the practical limits that AI-based financial analysis tools solve ▲and why companies fail at AI adoption, along with pragmatic ways to succeed.

“FP&A isn’t about tidying up financial statements,” Lee said. “It’s a decision-making system that uses today’s numbers to make tomorrow’s choices possible. Startups grow fast, so structured financial analysis and planning — not gut feel — is essential.”

“The reason so many companies fail at AI adoption isn’t the technology,” he added. “It’s that they deploy AI before their data structures and workflows are ready. Without clean ERP and financial data, no AI can produce meaningful results.”

Describing Numen, Lee said it “automatically connects KPIs, budgets, actuals, and forecasts on top of ERP ledger data to standardize and automate FP&A work,” adding that “the goal is to give startups and mid-market companies a finance decision-making environment they can use immediately — without a dedicated team or an expensive EPM system.”

A Growth Finance representative said, “This session helped startup leaders and practitioners see finance as a strategic tool rather than something to merely manage,” adding that the group “will continue producing content with CFO, finance, and strategy experts that delivers practical insight.”
